Andrew recently completed a sonata for trumpet and piano and is composing a second sonata for horn and piano. The principal brass players of the Oregon Symphony and pianist Elizabeth Dorman are preparing to record an album on Navona Records of the following pieces by Andrew Lewinter:
Sonata for Tuba and Piano, with JáTtik Clark, tuba. Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, with Jeff Work, trumpet. Sonata for Trombone and Piano, with Casey Jones, trombone (this is the “Sonata or Low Brass and piano). Second Sonata for Horn and Piano, with Jeff Garza, horn. Quartet for Trumpet, Horn, Trombone and Piano, with Jeff Work, Jeff Garza, Casey Jones, and David Riley, Piano. Andrew’s three-movement horn quartet, Sonatina for Horns is now available for purchase through Sheet Music Plus.
Andrew’s “Sonata for Low Brass and Piano” is now available for purchase through Sheet Music Plus. This piece is equally playable on tenor trombone, bass trombone or euphonium. Hence the title: Sonata for Low Brass and Piano (Trombone, Bass Trombone, or Euphonium).
Andrew Lewinter's Quintet for Horn and Strings is now available at SheetMusic Plus. The Quintet is scored for horn and string quartet. The style is very romantic. It is scheduled to be recorded by Bernhard Scully, for whom the piece was written, and the Jupiter String Quartet. The sheet music is available at SheetMusic Plus.
Andrew Lewinter's Four Miniatures for Horn and Violin is now available for purchase on SheetMusic Plus. This piece was written for, and at the suggestion of, David Jolley, a horn soloist who was one of my teachers when I was in high school. It’s a good piece to program on a concert with the Brahms Horn Trio, as the main theme of each of the short movements is based on an inversion of the intervals of the main theme in the corresponding movement of the Brahms. It’s in four movements, and scored for horn and violin (no piano).
Andrew Lewinter's Quintet for Oboe and String Quartet is now available for purchase on SheetMusic Plus. This quintet was written for oboe soloist John Dee.
Andrew Lewinter’s Quartet for trumpet, horn, trombone, and piano is now available for purchase on SheetMusic Plus and through this website. This work is essentially a romantic piano quartet, but with a brass trio substituting for the standard string trio.
