This work was written for Florida Philharmonic oboist John Dee and former Canadian Brass horn player Bernhard David Scully. It is in three interrelated movements. The third movement is a Theme and Variations.
Andrew Lewinter’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra is now available for purchase on Sheet Music Plus and through this website. This Concerto, which is also appropriate for Bass Trombone and Orchestra, is an orchestration of the Sonata for Tuba and Piano. The style of this piece is romantic. The Sonata on which the Concerto is based was written for Michael Grose of the University of Oregon in 2018. A recording of it by Grose and pianist Andrew Pham is currently being edited. A first cut of the first two movements of the Sonata can be heard on this webpage, under “Recordings.” The entire three-movement Sonata for Tuba and Piano with Tubist Michael Grose and Pianist Andrew Pham will be available soon.
